Preschool Morning Basket for your Homeschool

Preschool Morning Basket for your Homeschool

What is a homeschool morning basket?

A morning basket is a curated collection of books, activities, and materials that you use each morning to begin your homeschool day together. The idea is to gather in a cozy spot, like a couch or kitchen table, and spend time connecting. It’s an opportunity for intentional learning through stories, songs, hands-on activities, and gentle routines that start the day off right. You can find all of these activities in The Peaceful Preschool!

The wonderful thing about morning time in the preschool years is that it can be easily tailored to fit your child's interests and developmental stage.

Why is morning time important for preschoolers?

The preschool years are a magical time when children are curious, imaginative, and eager to explore the world around them. Morning time helps set the tone for the rest of the day, providing:

    • Connection: Morning time is a consistent opportunity to connect with your child. Sharing books, singing songs, or talking about a Bible verse or story can create a calm and nurturing environment.
        • Establishing Routines: Preschoolers thrive on predictable routines. Starting your homeschool day with a morning basket creates a sense of rhythm and helps them understand the flow of the day. Our Chore and Routine Pack can help establish healthy routines!
            • Gentle Learning Exposure: Morning time introduces preschoolers to early literacy, numeracy, and fine motor skills in a gentle and engaging way and we include all of that in our Early Years Morning Time Menu. With this tool, your child can build foundational skills in a joyful, stress-free way.
              • What to include in your preschool morning basket?

Your morning basket can be as simple or as elaborate as you like, but it should include a variety of resources that spark joy and curiosity. Here are some ideas of what to include as you get started:

                • Songs and Poetry: Include a songbook or a playlist of favorite children’s songs. Singing together is a great way to build language skills, rhythm, and memory.
                • Flashcards or Early Learning Memory Games: Our Picture Word Cards are a lovely way of working on phonogram review, labeling, sight words, and speech articulation with your child. You can pair them with our free Phonogram Bingo for another fun way to work on fine motor skills, counting, and phonics.
                • Bible Stories and Devotionals: The Good Gospel is an A-Z gospel devotional guide intended for use in preschool Sunday School, or as a weekly accompaniment to The Peaceful Preschool. The guide includes 26 lessons with verses, crafts, Bible stories, declarations, and fine art geared towards helping young children connect with the stories of Jesus. You can also add our ABC Bible Verse Cards to your morning basket.
                • Puzzles or Manipulatives: When homeschooling with multiple children, especially littles, including small puzzles, lacing cards, or building blocks can help develop fine motor skills and keep their hands busy while reading.
                • Seasonal Themes: Our Nature Book Flood is perfect for your morning basket including seasonal picture book recommendations with corresponding art, crafts, Bible verses, classical music and more.

Morning time in the preschool years is more than just an educational routine—it’s a way to build family connections and nurture a lifelong love of learning.
