5 Tips to a Peaceful First Week of Homeschool

5 Tips to a Peaceful First Week of Homeschool

The first days back to school are so exciting, and with these five tips, you can ease into the school year with joy.

  1. Celebrate the first day. Include a gift basket of new school supplies, a special snack, and back to school photos.
  2. Make the first day an orientation. Show your children their new resources, fill out the first day of school sign, and go over the rhythm with them. Older children could take this time to work on goals in the Student Planner, or you could set up the Chore and Routine pack with younger children so all students understand what the routine will be.
  3. Start slow. Take the first week to just do morning time and a math game, or do just one subject a day, instead of trying to do everything, every day.
  4. Incorporate movement. Children aren't created to sit still for long periods, so incorporate movement into your learning. Have them hop forward a step for each math fact they get right, or play the Object Game to work on early reading skills. They can also sit on a balance ball during morning time, or have them take a run around the house if they are struggling to focus.
  5. Feed them well. Children learn better when their tummies are full so keep high protein snacks available throughout the day.
