Celebrating Spring Holidays
Do you feel like there are some seasons of the year that are easier to get through as homeschool moms?
For me, anchor points like holidays help create goal posts that keep the year humming along. January keeps us engaged with the focus on starting new habits, and then the spring months bring so many connection opportunities through simple holiday celebrations.
Valentine's Day- You can download this fun lesson from the Peaceful Loop archives to pair with your own celebrations, but even making simple Valentine cards together can bring joy into your week.
Saint Patrick's Day-We love making an Irish meal of corned beef and cabbage along with a once yearly green pudding, and if time allows, watching a classic Irish culture film such as “The Quiet Man”. We've been to the site of Saint Patrick's church in Ireland so we also take time to read or pray his powerful prayer and reflect on the life of this saint. Read more about our celebrations here.
Easter/Passover-In our family faith tradition we focus on a Passover Seder as a spiritual reflection on the gift of Jesus and we do other traditional Easter activities as spring themed crafts and fun over the months of March and April. We have a few resources at the Peaceful Press that can enhance your own celebrations.
The Good Gospel-This 26 week resource would be great to use as a daily lesson plan over the season of Lent. It includes stories about the life of Jesus culminating in his death and resurrection. The crafts are geared towards preschool and kindergarten but families have enjoyed the lessons with children of all ages.
Peaceful Passover- This free guide includes a Passover seder script as well as meal suggestions. Passover has become a favorite yearly holiday and this guide can help you incorporate it into your home.
Walk Through the Seasons Spring Guide- This resource includes four weeks of lesson plans to celebrate spring. It has fun science experiments, scripture memory, phonics and math enrichment, and lovely spring themed picture book suggestions. It's perfect for bringing seasonal nature learning into your homeschool.
The Meadow Guide- This is part of Nourishing Nature Kindergarten and includes fun activities for celebrating all things spring. It highlights meadow flowers, insects, and birds, and has recipes and craft ideas to create a fun spring learning experience for preschool through early elementary.
